DES MOINES, Iowa, December 11, 2020 — The Nursing School Almanac has ranked Mercy Health Sciences University in the top 100 best nursing schools in the Great Plains in 2020. The region includes institutions from Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
The Nursing School Almanac evaluated each nursing school based on three aspects:
- The institution’s academic prestige and perceived value
- The breadth and depth of nursing programs offered
- Student success, particularly on the NCLEX licensure examination
Data was collected on more than 3,000 nursing schools and campuses throughout the United States. With only 20% of schools making the final list, Mercy Health Sciences University came in at number 66.

Mercy Health Sciences University offers both an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The ASN is offered in a part-time format on evenings and weekends to cater to working professionals. The BSN offers four distinct pathways:
- A Three-Year BSN for traditional students
- An Accelerated BSN (12-months) for students with a non-nursing baccalaureate degree
- An RN-to-BSN program offered 100% online
- A Paramedic-to-BSN program, the first and only of its kind in Iowa
